The Leadership of the three northern geopolitical zones in the Peoples Democratic Party have affirmed the party’s zoning of the presidency to the North while declaring their support to the Southwest to clinch the chairmanship slot zoned to the South. The party leaders spoke in Abuja on Tuesday at a gathering aimed at building consensus for the forthcoming national elective convention of the party in December.

Dr Olisa Agbakoba, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has sued the Federal Government over what he described as “lopsided appointments” at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). He said the appointments contravened “the provisions of section 14 of the constitution and also the federal character commission act and the provisions of sections 42 of the constitution of Nigeria that prohibits discrimination of any of Nigeria’s ethnic groups such as, in this case, the south-east”.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will on Wednesday, commence a series of training for different categories of officers for the November 18 Anambra governorship election. The acting Director-General of The Electoral Institute, Dr Sa’ad Umar Idris said the training of Electoral Officers/ Assistant Electoral Officers (Operations) would hold from October 11 to October 13 while that of Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs) Admin and Cluster would take place from October 16 to October 20 in Awka, the state’ s capital.

The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, headquartered in Port Harcourt has begun Operation Crocodile Smile II in Niger Delta. The Division is holding multi-agency confidence building patrol in Rivers State. The exercise according to the military is to combat the menace of kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminalities in the region.
