An Area Court in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Security (DSS) to investigate an allegation of forgery on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate filed against the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. Before being sworn in as deputy governor of Bayelsa state following February 14, 2020, judgement of the Supreme Court, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo was a Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, -was dragged before the court in Lugbe, Abuja on the allegation of presenting a forged NYSC Exemption Certificate with code No: 139708 dated Feb. 2, 1998, on his nomination form to INEC.

The United Progressive Party (UPP) which is one of the 74 political parties recently deregistered bt the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced its merger with the All Progressive Congress (APC).  This disclosure was contained in a statement made by the national chairman of the defunct part, Chief Chekwas Okorie at the end of its National Executive Committee (NEC) with Board of Trustees (BOT) and stakeholders. Okorie informed that the merger resolution was reached after APC stakeholders assured the party that its members will be warmly welcomed and giving equal opportunity with bona fide members of the ruling party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has in accordance with the instruction of the Supreme Court presented the certificate of return to PDP's governor-elect for Bayelsa state DouyeDiriGovernor Diri's deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo was also presented his certificate of return.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) on Thursday evening berated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for deregistering 74 political parties.IPAC in a statement signed by its National Legal Adviser, Mr Ezeobika Chukwudi, in Abuja, called on INEC to immediately reverse its decision on the de-registration. He emphasized that the decision of INEC was an indignity on the judiciary and a conscious disregard for the rule of law.
