Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George has expressed his readiness to deliver the Presidential seat in 2019 if given the mandate to lead the PDP. Chief Bode George disclosed this while formally declaring to his intention to run as the next national chairman of the PDP. His speech titled; “A new path. A new beginning”.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Tunde Lemo, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as chairman of the governing board of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA). The assistant director of press in the office of the secretary to the government of the federation, Mohammed Nakorji, disclosed this in a statement. Nakorji said the president has also appointed new members of the board.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday, announced that the Ekiti State Governorship election will hold on July 14, 2018, while Osun State Governorship election will hold September 22, 2018. INEC also announced that campaigns for the various elections should commence from April 15 and June 24, 2018, respectively.

A Federal High Court in Lagos is to rule on the no-case submission made by Patrick Akpobolokemi and others on October 16, 2017, according to reports. Mr. Akpobolokemi is a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA. He is charged with N2.6 billion fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Justice Ibrahim Buba fixed the date on Friday after hearing arguments on the no-case submission by the defence counsel, Joseph Nwobike.

The Federal Government has begun plans to shut down the National Economic Reconstruction Fund (NERFUND) over non-performance and non-performing loans of over N17.5 billion, according to reports. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reported that a source at the Federal Ministry of Finance, said on Thursday in Abuja that a committee had already been formed to ensure smooth liquidation of the company by the end of October.

Senator Isa Misau representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District has asked the Senate to probe the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris over alleged corrupt practices and misconduct. Misau, while raising a point of order at the plenary earlier, reiterated his earlier allegations against Idris, including the IGP’s recent alleged “secret” marriage to a serving policewoman against the public service rule.
