The United Progressive Party (UPP) which is one of the 74 political parties recently deregistered bt the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced its merger with the All Progressive Congress (APC). This disclosure was contained in a statement made by the national chairman of the defunct part, Chief Chekwas Okorie at the end of its National Executive Committee (NEC) with Board of Trustees (BOT) and stakeholders. Okorie informed that the merger resolution was reached after APC stakeholders assured the party that its members will be warmly welcomed and giving equal opportunity with bona fide members of the ruling party.

The Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Monday Bubou-Obolo, has paved way for the emergence of a new Speaker, Hon. Abraham Ingobere, who was the former Deputy Speaker of the 5th Assembly of the house. The election was necessitated by the recent assumption into office of the newly sworn-in governor Senator Douye Diri, who coincidentally is from the same Central Senatorial District as the former speaker Hon. Bubou-Obolo, comprising Southern Ijaw, Yenagoa and Kolokuma/Opokuma LGAs.
