The Nigerian Government says it will only demand for the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is facing corruption investigation in the United Kingdom to be extradited to the country to face corruption charges when it deemed it is necessary. The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), said this on Wednesday in Abuja during an interview granted to some Hausa service State House Correspondents.

NYSC To Be Repositioned To Meet National Needs

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has decided to review the policy thrust and administration of the scheme to make it more responsive to national needs.

The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose is currently declaring his presidential ambition in Abuja on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The event has in attendance the former deputy Governor of Osun state, Oyinlola Omisore, the former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and Hon. Ladi Adebutu among others.

Former Director-General of the Institute of Agricultural, Research and Training’ prof. Benjamin Ogunmodede and two members of staff of the institute were on Tuesday, sentenced to 40 years in prison without an option of fine by a Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan. Ogunmodede, has said that he and two other persons convicted alongside him spent N177m to bribe lawmakers and some employees of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The Nigerian government has expressed satisfaction with Commonwealth’s role in supporting the fight against corruption. The Chairman Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay, who said this in London when they visited the Commonwealth Secretariat’s headquarters, noted that the Commonwealth technical assistance to Nigeria helped in the recovery of the proceeds of crime.

Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Hakan Cakil, has promised to launch an investigation to fish out those behind the illegal importation of firearms from Turkey to Nigeria. Mr Cakil made the promise during a meeting with the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (Retd), amid growing concerns over the interception and seizure of pump-action rifles illegally shipped to Nigeria from Turkey.
