The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that the Ondo state governorship primaries were inconclusive and requested a fresh election. Usman Ododo, the Chairman of the seven-member committee responsible for the conduct of the primaries, declared the exercise inconclusive. He stated that the main reasons behind the decision were the delay and late arrival of materials and personnel to 13 wards in the Okitipupa area council of Ondo state.
The primary elections were held across 203 wards in the 18 local government areas of the state. However, these elections witnessed some disruptions, which caused displeasure among the aspirants. Five of the aspirants, namely Olusola Oke, Olugbenga Edema, Wale Akinterinwa, Dayo Faduyile, and Jimi Odimayo have called for the cancellation of the primary election. They alleged that there were irregularities in the process and have, therefore, requested the party to remove Mr. Ododo from his position as the chairman of the electoral committee and repeat the process.
In response to skirmishes during the primary election in Ondo State, the chairman and governor of Kogi State, Mr. Ododo, issued a statement. He noted that“Having received reports of the primary election from the 203 Wards in the 18 Local Governments of Ondo State, the Primary election Committee has decided that election will be conducted in all the 13 Wards of Okitipupa Local Government with total validated registered members of 9,515 because of validated reports that the exercise did not hold in the Local government due to late arrival of materials and personnel as a result of logistics challenges.
“Election in Okitipupa Local Government shall be conducted at noon on Sunday 21st April 2024.
“The final collation of the results will be done thereafter.”
