The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared October 1, Nigeria's Independence Day as a national day of prayers for the country. The President of CAN, Rev. Samson Ayokunle stated this on Tuesday in a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji.

The Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer's University, Ede, Prof. Zacheus Adeyewas says the Federal Government is owing the institution over $375, 000, being an amount of money spent on research on the prevention and containment of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The Vice Chancellor made the disclosure on Monday at a pre-convocation conference held to announce the forthcoming 9th convocation ceremony.

The Adamawa House of Assembly on Monday impeached four of the principal officers, including the Deputy Speaker, Mr Sunday Peter, and the Majority Leader, Alhaji Musa Mahmud. Others removed were the Deputy Majority Leader, Mutawali Mohammed and the Minority Leader, Mrs Justina Nkom (SDP-Lamurde) State Constituency.

An Igbo socio-cultural organization in Oyo state has commended South East Governors and the Ohaneze Ndigbo on the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), stressing that the move has averted bloodshed in Igbo land. The Ezendigbo of Oyo, Dr. Alex Anozie who made the position of the group known in a chat with newsmen in Ibadan stated that it was unwise for the Igbos to contemplate another war, having suffered huge casualties in the civil war that lasted between 1967 and 1970.

As electioneering activities gain steam ahead of the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November, the former Governor of the State, Peter Obi and the incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano have intensified their war of words. Yesterday, Obi challenged the Governor to account for the N75 billion he left behind while leaving office over 4 years ago. Valentine Obienyem, the Special Adviser to the former Governor stated this in a statement released to journalists.

The All Progressive Congress (APC), Katsina state Chapter has endorsed the President, Muhammadu Buhari for second. The state chairman of the party, Shittu S. Shittu stated this on Saturday while briefing newsmen at the end of a crucial meeting by the state executive committee of the APC.
