President Buhari To Launch Financial Framework For SDGs

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to launch Nigeria’s Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on Friday on the margins of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly taking place in New York, the United States of America. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina titled, ‘President Buhari to Launch Nigeria’s Integrated National Financing Framework for Sustainable Development in New York’.

Dozens Killed In Burkina Faso IED Blast

At least 35 civilians have been killed as a convoy of vehicles conveying supplies in Burkino Faso’s restive northern region struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). According to Rodolphe Sorgo, the governor of the northeastern Sahel region, the explosion, which wounded 37 others, occurred as the military-escorted convoy traveled along the road from Bourzanga to Djibo on Monday. "One of the vehicles carrying civilians hit an improvised explosive device. The provisional toll is 35 dead and 37 injured, all civilians," a statement said by governor Rodolphe Sorgho said.

William Ruto Sworn In As Kenya’s President

William Ruto was sworn in as Kenya’s fifth President of Tuesday, in the presence of about 60,000 people packed at a stadium in Kenya's capital to witness Ruto's inauguration following his election win last month. He was sworn in by Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi, in the presence of Chief Justice Martha Koome. This is coming a week after the Supreme Court upheld an election that dashed the hopes of the nation’s most prominent political families and handed power to a man who began his career as a roadside chicken seller. The 55-year-old took the oath of office on a copy of kenya's constitution, five weeks to the day since the August 9 poll, assuming the reins of a country gripped by drought and a cost-of-living crisis.

Sierra Leone Protest: Government Imposes Curfew To Restore Order

Vice President of Sierra Leone Mohamed Jalloh, imposed a curfew on Wednesday from 3 p.m. local time (1500 GMT) in a bid to quell anti-government protests that resulted in the deaths of several persons and about eight police officers. According to officials and local media reports, hundreds of people took to the streets on Wednesday in a public display of frustration over inflation, rising cost of living, and general economic conditions in the country. It was gathered that the police officers, including six men and two women, were “brutalised” and killed in the area where the protests were held on Wednesday, youth minister Mohamed Bangura said. Bangura said he could not immediately confirm the number of civilians killed or injured in the violent demonstrations. “We are yet to know how many people were injured, but I can confirm that eight police officers were killed,” he said. Bangura also described the protests as an "act of terrorism."

Guinea Bissau President Elected As ECOWAS Chairman

The President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embalo, was unanimously elected on Sunday as the new chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He was elected at the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government 61st Ordinary Session in Accra, Ghana, to succeed Ghana’s Nana Akufo-Addo, who held the position for almost two years. The new chairman, elected for a year, will have the mandate to restore constitutional rule in Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea, which are currently under military governments.
