Former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki Dies At 90

Kenya's former President, Mwai Kibaki, who led for over a decade has died at the age of 90, his successor, President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Friday. Kenyatta said this in an address on state television, ordering a period of national mourning until the day Kibaki is to be buried, adding that the nation's flags will be flown at half-mast. He said, “It is a sad day for us as a country. We have lost a great leader.”

President Blaise Compaoré Bags Life Sentence For The Murder Of Thomas Sankara

Blaise Compaoré, former president of Burkina Faso, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of and one-time friend and former President Thomas Sankara by a military tribunal. Sankara, 37 was brutally killed on October 15, 1987, by soldiers who gunned him down outside his office. The former president's sentence came on Wednesday 6th of April 2022 6 months after the trial of 14 accused in the assassination of Burkina Faso's revered Pan-African leader started.

Two Trains Collide In Tunisia, 95 People Reportedly Injured

Emergency services in Tunisia have disclosed that there was a head-on collision between two passenger trains which occurred south of the capital of Tunisia. The train incident happened around 9:30 am local time on Monday and 95 people have reportedly been injured. A spokesman for Tunisia’s emergency services said only one of the trains was transporting passengers and most of the passengers suffered fractures and bruises, he added that none of the injuries was life-threatening

Flood Kills Over 300 In South Africa

South Africa is bracing up for more heavy rain in districts hit by massive and lethal downpours earlier this week.
Dozens of people have died after roads and hillsides were washed away and homes collapsed. The death toll in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal has reached over 300, after the devastating floods. The search for missing persons is still going on and the death toll is expected to rise. One family is said to have lost 10 members in the devastating floods.
Residents had to flee their homes but road infrastructure has been severely damaged. A state of disaster has been declared in the area, after some areas saw months worth of rain fall in one day. Officials have called it "one of the worst weather storms in the history of our country".

Seven Die As Train Derails In DR Congo

At least seven people have died after a freight train derailed in the South-East Democratic Republic of Congo, a local official said on Monday. The Interior Minister, Deoda Kapenda said the incident occurred on Saturday, at Buyofwe village of Lualaba province with seven people dead and 14 "seriously injured". “The toll could rise because a large number of clandestine passengers were trapped under the upturned wagons,” Kapenda added.

AfDB Secures Investment Of $15.6Bn For Lagos-Abidjan Road Project

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced that it has secured the sum of $15.6Bn for the construction of the Lagos-Abidjan highway corridor. This was disclosed by the President of AfDB, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina during the 2021 African Investment virtual boardroom closing session which was held on Thursday where he stated that the project would ease transportation across the West African sub-region.
