Ghana Scraps Fuel Subsidy, Ensures Stability In Energy Sector

The Ghana National Petroleum Authority (NPA) through its Chief executive officer (CEO) Abdul Hamid has revealed during a presentation at the ongoing Africa Refiners and Distributers (ARDA) week held in Cape Town, South Africa, that the country has implemented regulatory measures, including the removal of fuel subsidy, to make sure that there is stability across its downstream sector. Hamid stated that measures were put in place with respect to the global oil and gas market volatility caused by the Russian-Ukraine war and energy transition-related policies.

President Buhari Travels To Ethiopia For AU Summit

President Muhammadu Buhari departed Abuja on Thursday for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to participate in the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) with the theme “Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation.” This was revealed by President Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu on Wednesday, adding that President Buhari would participate in high-level meetings on peace and security, climate change, and the political situation in some West African countries.

Experts Raise Alarm Of Volcanic Activity In DR Congo

Volcanic activities have been observed since Monday by experts at the top of Nyamulagira volcano in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). According to latest data It’s been caused by a movement of lava at shallow depths towards the central crater. The Goma Volcanological Observatory confirmed the development late Monday. The government said there is "no risk" for the moment. "As of 6 p.m. local time, a fiery glow was observed at the top of the Nyamulagira volcano," the volcanological observatory said in a statement, adding that current seismic data indicates "a movement of magmas at shallow depths towards the central crater."

US Alerts Its Citizens In Kenya Of Possible Terror Attack

The United States has issued a terror alert to its American citizens in Kenya to exercise vigilance in high traffic locations frequented by foreigners. In the security advisory circulated on Thursday, the Embassy asked its citizens in Nairobi and other locations within Kenya to review their personal security plans. The note warns that hotels, embassies, restaurants and malls frequented by foreigners and tourists could be attacked with little or no warning. It comes just hours after Kenyan authorities released the names of five men wanted for their links to the al-Shabab Islamist group.

Search Underway For 50 Kidnapped Burkina Faso Women

Security forces have commenced search for about 50 women abducted by suspected jihadists in insurgency ravaged norther Burkina Faso. The group of women and girls foraging for wild fruits were kidnapped by gunmen in separate incidents between January 12 and 13 respectively. A regional governor, Lieutenant-Colonel Rodolphe Sorgho, in a statement on Monday said as soon as their disappearance was announced, efforts were launched to find all of the innocent victims safe and sound.
