President Muhammadu Buhari travelled to Niamey, Republic of Niger today (Thursday) to attend the African Union (AU) Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification, and also to attend the Extraordinary Session on African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA) with the theme: ‘Industrializing Africa: Renewed commitment towards an Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization and Economic Diversification.

Tragedy As Tanzanian Flight Crashes Into Lake Victoria

A domestic passenger flight carrying 49 passengers this morning crash landed in Lake Victoria shortly before landing at Bukoba Airport due to bad weather, though no passenger is reported lost yet as a rescue operation is ongoing. According to the Tanzanian regional police commander, Williams Mwampaghale, “There was an accident involving a Precision Air plane which… crashed into water about 100 meters from the airport.”

9 Civilians killed In Somalia Hotel Attack

A car bomb and shooting attack on a hotel in the Somali city of Kismayu killed nine people on Sunday before security forces ended the siege at the hotel and killed the attackers, a regional official said.
Security officers killed three of the attackers and a fourth died in the bomb blast, said Yussuf Hussein Dhumal, security minister for Jubbaland. Gunfire erupted after the explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the gate of the port city's Tawakal Hotel. The al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab militant group said it had carried out the attack.

EU Pledges €1 Billion Support For Climate Change Adaptation In Africa

The European Union has announced €1 billion in support of climate adaptation in Africa. The sum is a starting point, he said. This was revealed in a statement by Frans Timmermans, the executive vice president of the European Commission. During his speech at COP 27 on November 16, in Sharm El-Sheikh, he laid emphasis on the event being an African COP and an adaptation COP. Timmermans said, the four members are France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark and that other countries could join.

Hope In Ethiopia/Tigray as Obasanjo and Other African Leader’s Broker Cease Fire

There is hope for peace in the horn of Africa as the Ethiopian Government and Tigray People Liberation Front, TPF,  have entered into a cease-fire agreement being negotiated by the African Union in South Africa. As of yesterday during the signing of the agreement, a two-year cease fire has been negotiated by African leaders like former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, Uhuru Kenyata of Kenya, and others in Pretoria, South Africa. Shortly after the meeting, Obasanjo congratulated both parties for ending hostility, and disarmament as well as providing access for humanitarian into the region for the provision of succor to the battered civilians.

Burkina Faso Coup Leader Named Transitional President

Burkina Faso's military officials, political parties and civil society leaders on Friday officially designated army captain Ibrahim Traore as the country's transitional president, two weeks after he seized power in Burkina Faso's second coup this year. About 300 delegates are meeting over two days in the capital, Ouagadougou, to outline plans to return the West African country to constitutional rule. Traore, who is now considered the World’s youngest leader is expected to lead the country until elections in July 2024, according to the transitional charter. Traore, at the head of a core of disgruntled junior officers, ousted Lieutenant-colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who had seized power just in January.
