Anti Apartheid Hero, Desmond Tutu Of South Africa Is Dead

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, one of the heroes who put their life online during the apartheid in South Africa has passed on to join the ancestors. The South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa described the loss as “another chapter of bereavement in our nation’s farewell to a generation of outstanding South Africans”. The president applauded the nonagenarian cleric for lending his voice for the liberation of his countrymen. 

60th ECOWAS Session: Leaders Deliberate On How To Better The Region

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday 12th of December 2021, joined by his African counterparts attended the 60th Ordinary Session of Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS at the State House in Abuja to deliberate on issues of trade, regional integration as well as peace and security in the region. During the session, President Buhari emphasized the various challenges tormenting, especially the situation in Mali and Guinea where the military seized power.

Burkina Faso's Prime Minister Resign Over Insecurity

Burkina Faso’s government resigned on Wednesday following several protests by the population denouncing its inability to fight recurrent jihadist attacks that plague the West African country every week. President Roch Marc Christian Kabore, who had already changed his military leadership over the security crisis, accepted Prime Minister Christophe Joseph Marie Dabire’s resignation, according to a presidential decree. The resignation of a prime minister requires the resignation of the entire government, according to Burkina Faso law. The secretary general of the government, Stepane Wenceslas Sanou, reading a presidential decree on television said. “It has put an end to the functions of Prime Minister of Mr. Dabirè.”
However the outgoing government will be required to remain in a caretaker capacity until a new one is formed, Sanou said. In accordance with the law, "the members of the outgoing government are responsible for the day-to-day running of the ministerial departments until a new government is formed," said Sanou.

President Buhari To Attend Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit in Istanbul

President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Abuja on Thursday for Istanbul, Turkey to attend the third Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit. The summit would be hosted by the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan with the theme, “Enhanced Partnership for Common Development and Prosperity.” This was made known in a statement on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

100 'Terrorists' Killed In Burkina Faso, Niger Joint Operation

The armies of Burkina Faso and neighbouring Niger said Thursday they had killed around 100 "terrorists" in a joint military operation against jihadists on the border between November 25 and December 9. The operation managed to "neutralise around 100 terrorists" and "detain around 20 suspicious individuals", they said in a joint statement. They had also dismantled two bases, one in Kokoloukou in western Niger and another in Yeritagui in eastern Burkina Faso.

Cape Verde Officially Opens Embassy In Nigeria

Jose Silva, Prime Minister of Cape Verde, the only Island-country in West Africa, has pledged better cooperation and increase in trade volumes between Nigeria and his country in the coming years. Silva made the pledge in Abuja on Saturday at the official opening of the first-ever Cape Verdean Embassy in Nigeria, stressing that tourism and transportation would top the areas of cooperation. Speaking to newsmen after the opening, the PM, who spoke through an interpreter, said that the setting up of the embassy was a great step toward better cooperation and regional integration.
