Uche Secondus Emerges PDP National Chairman

A former acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Uche Secondus, has emerged as the party’s National Chairman, ending its long and troubled quest to elect leaders after it suffered defeat in the 2015 Presidential election.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is holding its national convention at the Eagle square, Abuja, two years and nine months after it lost a 16-year grip on power at the Federal level.

The convention will elect new set of officials to lead the party in the quest to wrest power back from the All Progressives Congress (APC). That process is meant to start in full force with today’s National Convention where eight candidates are racing to become the National Chairman.

The Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, is the Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa.

Nigeria President Mohammadu Buahri has said that all assets seized from corrupt persons in and out of the country would be sold soonest and the proceeds would be paid into the coffers of the government for public use. He made the disclosure in an interactive section with community leaders held at the Coronation Hall, government house Kano state north western Nigeria on the second day of his official visit to the state.

A head of 2019 general elections in the country, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has released possible dates for the general election.

The Presidential and National Assembly Elections are to hold on February 16, 2019 while the Governorship, State Assembly and Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory will take place on March 2, 2019.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this at the on-going induction retreat for Resident Electoral Commissioners in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital yesterday.

The United State government has reiterated its commitment to partnering with Nigeria to tackle security challenges in the country. The Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington made this known in Abuja during the meeting with Nigerian Security Officials on the Security Governance Initiative Working Group Meeting.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola pulled a fast one on the National Judicial Council, by hurriedly announcing his resignation, a spokesman for the council revealed today. According to Soji Oye, NJC’s Director of Information, the council recommended on Wednesday the compulsory retirement of Ademola, along with Justice O. O. Tokode, both of the Federal High Court, for misconduct.
