The National Reconciliation Committee of the People’s Democratic Party led by Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa on Tuesday visited some aggrieved members as part of efforts to forge a post-convention reconciliation within the party.

Among the party members visited by the Dickson team was former National Chairmanship aspirant, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, Special Adviser Media Relations to Governor Dickson, Mr Fidelis Soriwei, revealed in a statement in Abuja.

Also visited by Dickson were former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ibrahim Mantu, a former Minister of Information and Orientation, Prof Jerry Gana, and former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Ina Ciroma, who contested for the position of Deputy National Chairman, North.

Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai on Tuesday signed the 2018 appropriation Bill into law after it was considered and passed by the Kaduna State House of Assembly. A breakdown of the N216.55bn budget tagged 'Budget of Consolidation' indicates that N131.1bn is for Capital expenditure while N85.44bn was earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

Global Amnesty Watch, a renowned Human Rights Group has exonerated the Nigerian Military of complicity in the abuse of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across IDP camps in the North East. The group made this disclosure on Tuesday in a report made public by its Country Representative, Africa Affairs, Helen Adesola at the presentation of field report and practices in Nigeria’s war against insurgency.

The Acting Chairman of the Independence Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses (ICPC), Abdullahi Bako on Tuesday blamed the inability of the Commission to prosecute over 20 suspected ex-Governors on paucity of funds. Rotimi Amaechi, Transport Minister and former governor of Rivers State said he decided to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because of his quest for change. The former Governor stated this on Tuesday in Lagos. He explained that the decision was even made simpler with the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as the flag bearer of the party in the last election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated the new national Chairman and other newly-elected officials of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Chairman of the ruling party, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun in a statement on Tuesday congratulating Prince Uche Secondus on his election at the PDP’s recent National Convention expressed hope that the newly-elected Chairman will use his experience garnered over the years to ensure that the PDP assumes its role as a responsible opposition party in the country.

“Our Party wholeheartedly welcome opposition because we believe that democracy cannot thrive without a vibrant but responsible opposition that puts the nation first. This will often challenge you to balance partisan interests with overall national considerations,” the statement read in part.
