The Nigerian Army General Court Martial sitting in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital on Friday sentenced a serving soldier to death for killing five rescued civilians from Yamteke area of the state. The soldier who was identified as Lance Corporal John Godwin was charged with murder, punishable under Section 106 (a) of Armed Forces Acts (Cap A20), Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004. He had since been in custody before his trial.

Economic Council Approve $1bn From Excess Crude Account For Fight Against Insurgency
The National Economic Council (NEC) has asked the federal government to use $1bn from the excess crude account (ECA) for the fight against insurgency in the north-east. Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, disclosed this to state house correspondents after the council’s meeting on Thursday, presided over by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
Court Declares ‘State Of Osun’ Illegal, Rebukes Aregbesola
Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa has declared the change of the name of the state to the “State of Osun” as illegal, null and void.
The ruling followed a case instituted by a human rights activist, Kanmi Ajibola, challenging the legality of the “State of Osun Land Use Charge Law”.
In his judgment which lasted more than one hour on Thursday, Justice Yinka Afolabi ruled that the law and its makers were unknown to the 1999 constitution.
He also chided the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, for deliberately and singlehandedly renaming the state illegally contrary to the known norms and the Nigerian Constitution.

EFCC Chairman, DSS DG Appear Before Senate Committee On The Clash Between The Sister Agencies
Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu and the Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura, appeared before a Senate panel to discuss the clash between EFCC and DSS officials. The clash began when operatives of the EFCC attempted to arrest former head of NIA, Mr Ayo Oke, and the former DSS DG, Ita Ekpeyong on November 21.
