The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday presided over the Federal Executive Council meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The development came after President Muhammadu Buhari embarked on a one-day official visit to Yobe state in continuation of his tour of troubled states in the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari has offered three reasons why he decided to withhold assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill recently proposed by the National Assembly. The President in separate letters to the House of Representatives and the Senate on Monday and read on the floors of both chambers on Tuesday alluded to infringement on the constitutional powers of INEC as well as the limitation the amendment would placed on candidates seeking elective positions.

The House of Representatives has recalled Abdulmumin Jibrin, lawmaker representing Bebeji/Kiru constituency in Kano state. The lawmaker was suspended on September 28, 2016, 180 legislative days after he raised an alarm of the alleged padding of the 2016 budget. The lawmaker was recalled following a letter of apology which Jibril wrote to the lawmakers on Tuesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari will visit Yobe State on Wednesday, (today) as part of his visit to states affected by Boko Haram attacks and herdsmen-farmers crisis. Following his arrival in Damaturu, President Buhari is expected to meet with stakeholders – including the state governor, Mr Ibrahim Gaidam, and parents of the abducted students of the Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi.

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday ruled that the issue of elevation would not stop a judge from carrying out his or her duty.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole gave the ruling in the N9 billion alleged fraud trial against former Benue governor, Gabriel Suswam.

The judge made the clarification as a result of concern raised by counsel to Suswam, Mrs Chinelo Ogbozor, as a result of Justice Kolawole’s elevation.

The issue was objected to by the prosecuting counsel, Mr Aminu Alilu.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked media reports that the Governor of Gombe state, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo has been adopted as it's presidential candidate ahead of the 2019 general elections. The National Chairman of the Party, Uche Secondus made this known on Monday while briefing newsmen at a rally organized by the party in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.
