The Vice-President of The Gambia, Mrs Fatoumata Tambajang, has said that The Gambia would ‘collapse’ if Nigerian professionals in the country withdraw their services or leave the country.

Tambajang made the remark at a dinner organised for the Nigerian delegation to the 62nd Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the Nigeria House, New York, on Thursday night.

The vice-president, who was represented by Dr Mamadou Tangara, the Ambassador/Permanent Representative of The Gambia to the UN, commended Nigeria for its numerous support to her country.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed the appeal by Senator Dino Melaye seeking to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from beginning his recall process. A Federal High Court, Abuja had in September 2107 given INEC the nod to has asked the Appeal Court in Abuja the nod to begin Melaye’s recall process.

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) on Thursday declared that the party was the real third force being clamored for ahead of the 2019 general elections. The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yemi Adetoyinbo stated this in Akure the Ondo state capital during an interview with newsmen. He said the party was ready to take over from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), starting with the Ekiti State gubernatorial election.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed condolences over the passing away of the Bishop of Kafanchan Catholic Diocese, Joseph Danlami Bagobiri.

The Bishop died in Kaduna on February 27, 2018 after an illness and was buried on Thursday, March 16.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday inaugurated a 13-member security sub-committee for the 2019 general elections in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital. The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi state Command, Mr. Titus Sumba-Lamorde and the chairman of the Inter Agency Consultative on Election Security (IACES) who carried out the inauguration, requested the sub-committee to articulate security strategies ahead of the general elections.

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka on Thursday disclosed that shortly after the Chibok schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram, he reached out to former President Goodluck Jonathan to enquire about the situation but lamented that he was dismissed out rightly. He stated this while speaking on Thursday at a dialogue organized by Ripples Centre for Data and Investigative Journalism in Lagos.
