The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked media reports that the Governor of Gombe state, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo has been adopted as it's presidential candidate ahead of the 2019 general elections. The National Chairman of the Party, Uche Secondus made this known on Monday while briefing newsmen at a rally organized by the party in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.
Recall that governors under the platform recently held a crucial media in Gombe state. After the meeting, it was reported that the governors of the party adopted Dankwambo as their preferred candidate for the presidential election.
Reacting, Secondus said although he was not in attendance at the meeting, such decision was not taken. He described the report as false, stressing that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) sponsored the report to cause division within the party.
Speaking on why himself and the governor of Rivers were absent at the meeting, he said he was on a medical trip abroad. He also hinted that the Rivers state governor was not the only one absent at the meeting.
“Though I was not in Gombe meeting, it was false, don’t listen to APC false propaganda. There was no such nomination. I was not in attendance because I went for medicals, I am a human being; most governors were absent not only my governor Wike,” he added.
