President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa on his election as the President of the Republic of South Africa. The President also felicitates with the African National Congress (ANC)), and the Government and people of South Africa, on the peaceful transfer of power that resulted in the choice of President Ramaphosa.

The House of Representatives Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness was on Thursday mandated to probe the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), over the alleged looting and diversion of N19.4 billion relief materials funds for victims of disasters. The directive followed a motion moved by Benjamin Wayo, under matter of urgent public importance on the floor of the House.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday explained the reason behind the registration of underage people by registration officers in Kano and other states. The Director of Publicity and Voter Education, Mr. Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi while appearing on Kakaaki, an AIT programme said they were registered because the lives of registration officers were threatened by some members of the community.

The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi on Thursday admitted that there is corruption in the current administration. He however said the level of corruption in the President Buhari's administration cannot be compared to what obtained during the immediate past administration of Jonathan.

There was tension in Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday as officers of the Nigeria Police stormed the Headquarters of Peace Corps of Nigeria and prevented the Commandant of the Corps, Dickson Akoh and his men from accessing the office. Akoh who was accompanied to the office by some Civil Society Organizations and Youth Groups said he was at the office following a court order as well as a recent directive by the House of Representatives ordering the Police to unseal and vacate the premises.

About 5, 000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state on Wednesday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Oxbow Lake Pavillion in Swali, Yenagoa. The defectors were led by the former State Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Tarila Tebepa; ex Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Engr. Monday Karibo; ex Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Stephen Erebo; ex member of the House of Assembly, Hon. Francis Otele and a former key chieftain, Hon. Iro Kominibo.
