Arewa Consultative Forum, a northern political and socio-cultural group has commended President Buhari's move to grant unconditional amnesty to repentant members of Boko Haram sect. The National Publicity Secretary of the group, Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad Biu stated this in a chat with newsmen on Saturday. He said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the plan as the measure had been adopted by the previous government to curb the restiveness in the Niger Delta region.

Arewa Consultative Forum, the Northern Elders Forum and over 16 other Northern Socio-cultural and Political organizations on Saturday organized a crucial summit at Arewa House, Kaduna. The groups in a communiqué issued after the summit berated elected officeholders from the region over their inability to address pressing challenges affecting the region especially insecurity and poverty.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari received the released Dapchi girls on Friday in a meeting after the release of the girls by Boko Haram militants at the State House presidential villa, Abuja. "We entered into negotiation solely to make sure that no single girl was hurt. This strategy paid off as the girls are being released without any incident," Buhari said to reporters at the presidential villa in Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday expressed the readiness to offer amnesty to members of the Boko Haram sect that are willing to drop their arms.

President Buhari said this at a meeting with freed schoolgirls who were previously abducted from their school in Dapchi, Yobe State by Boko Haram terrorists.

“Federal Government is ready to rehabilitate Boko Haram militants who are ready to lay down their arms,” he said.
