The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared October 1, Nigeria's Independence Day as a national day of prayers for the country. The President of CAN, Rev. Samson Ayokunle stated this on Tuesday in a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji.
He stated that the country was currently passing through series of problems especially in security and economy sectors. He said for these challenges to be addressed Nigerians need to seek the face of God as the people of old did.
The statement read;
“The unity of the country has been under consistent threat as the citizens have been polarized along various divides and the only thing that we can do as the people of God is to intercede for divine intervention. All churches in the country should pray for peace, unity and deliverance of the country on October 1, which marks the Independence Day celebration. All churches in the country should intercede for the country against needless bloodletting, violence and civil war.”
