The State Department has confirmed that a United States Journalist, Christopher Allen was killed in South Sudan on Saturday. The State Department made the disclosure on Sunday in a statement issued by US Embassy.

Sierra Leone Flood: Tony Elumelu Donates $500,000

Nigerian banker and philanthropist Tony Elumelu has donated $500,000 to Sierra Leone to help alleviate the suffering of people affected by flood and mudslide in the country. Elumelu made the donation to Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma on Wednesday during a visit to the country.

After almost four decades in which he led Angola through civil war and an oil-fuelled boom, President José Eduardo dos Santos will step down at elections this week. Angola goes to the polls on Wednesday in a historic election marking the end of dos Santos’ 38-year reign, with his party set to retain power despite the country’s economic crisis.

Angola’s election commission announced that the ruling MPLA party won Angola’s elections, after polling 65% of the votes counted in the provisional results. The candidate of the party, Joao Lourenco now set to succeed longtime President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos who has ruled for 38 years.

Russia's ambassador to Sudan, Mirgayas Shirinskiy, was found dead in the swimming pool at his home in Khartoum on Wednesday, the Sudanese police said. The ambassador, who was known to have suffered from high blood pressure, is believed to have died of natural causes, a spokesman for the police told Reuters.
