President Muhammadu Buhari has approved an international conference in Nigeria on saving the Lake Chad and revitalize its basin’s ecosystem for sustainable livelihood, security and development.

Malam Garba Shehu, the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

Shehu said that conference would be the first international forum on Lake Chad organised by the six-member countries of the basin’s region.

“The three-day conference will consist of two days of technical sessions and one day high level meetings between Feb. 26, 2018 and Feb. 28, 2018 and it will take place in Abuja,” he said.

The presidential aide said that the high level meeting would have in attendance all of the Presidents and Heads of Government of the Lake Chad Basin member-states.

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, on his 50th birthday celebration. In a goodwill message signed by the Special Adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adeshina, the President described Dogara as a humble, matured, disciplined and friendly leader. It reads in part;

The Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun has called on all party members in the state especially those seeking elective positions not to defect to other political parties after the conduct of primaries in order for the party to remain united and in power. Governor Amosun who stated this at a meeting with members of his party at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat, Abeokuta said those who lose primaries should quickly 'fall in line' so that the party can remain as one ahead of the elections.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked speculations that the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu has been sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari. The Commission cleared the air on Tuesday via its verified Twitter handle. The Commission in a series of tweets said "there is no change of guards."

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo says the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) would bear the cost of fuel subsidy and not the Federal Government. His statement is coming after reports showed that the landing cost of fuel is now N171 against N145, a development that has forced marketers to request for increment in pump price of product. Speaking at Apapa Lagos, the Vice President said since it was the NNPC that buys petroleum product; it will bear the cost of subsidy.

The Nigerian Army on Monday disclosed that its troops in Borno state had killed three Boko Haram insurgents and recovered 200 cattle in Borno. The disclosure was made by Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, the Director of Army Public Relations, in a statement in Maiduguri. Kukasheka said that the insurgents had earlier carted away 200 cattle rustled at Makandari village of Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno.
