Oby Ezekwesili, former minister of education, says her political agenda is to actively “campaign against” the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election.

Ezekwesili made this known through a series of tweets on Wednesday morning.

She promised to actively campaign for the “best candidates” from other parties except the PDP and APC presented new and “suitable candidates.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service and other port officials not to frustrate businesses with processes that could cause needless delays.

The President gave the warning on Thursday shortly after inaugurating some government projects in Kaduna State, North West Nigeria.

The projects include two additional locomotives and 10 additional passenger coaches for the Abuja-Kaduna rail service; as well as the new Inland Container Depot.

“Our Customs and port officials must now make the Kaduna Inland Dry Port work,” President Buhari said on his Twitter handle.

The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to link all commercial cities and production centre’s including state capitals through rail in order to fastback the socio-economic development of the nation.

The PDP Publicity Secretary in Benue, Mr Bemgba Iortyom made the call in a statement on Wednesday in Makurdi.

“Once again, heavily armed gunmen on Jan. 2, unleashed violence and mayhem on some rural communities in Benue.

“This time in Guma and Logo Local Government Areas (LGAs), killing a yet to be determined number of peasant farmers, women, children and the aged inclusive.

“The assailants also visited arson on property of the locals on a massive scale which is also yet to be estimated in terms of monetary value.

The Nigerian Army said on Thursday that one of the Chibok girls abducted in 2014 has been rescued in Pulka, Borno State. The Deputy Director of Public Relations, Theatre Command, Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, who confirmed the development in a statement in Maiduguri, said the young girl after preliminary investigation, has been identified as Salomi Pagu who is number 86 on the list of the abducted Chibok girls.

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has averted the attention of the Presidency and Nigerians over perceived draconian leadership of the Kaduna State Government under Mallam Nasir el-Rufai as governor, accusing the governor of unprecedented assault on the state workers. Consequently, NLC disclosed that it will give effect to its National Executive Council’s decision to observe January 11, 2018 as a day of solidarity with the workers of Kaduna State, and would mobilise Nigerian workers to march for the reversion of the sacked workers in Kaduna City.

The Rivers State Government has defended Governor Nyesom Wike against claims by the Minister of Transport that the governor was responsible for the New Year killing in the state. Mr Rotimi Amaech had earlier on Tuesday accused the governor of encouraging thuggery and, thereby, causing the killing of up to 16 persons on New Year’s Day in the state.
