Delta LG Polls Turn Violent As Protesters Set SIEC Office Ablaze, Electoral Staff Dies

The local government election in Delta State that initially started peacefully turned violent following a reported attack on the Ughelli office of the State’s Independent Electoral Commission.

President Muhammadu Buhari had a train ride on Thursday shortly after he inaugurated two additional locomotives and 10 additional passenger coaches for the Abuja-Kaduna rail service in Abuja.

President Buhari was joined on the ride by the Kaduna State Governor, Nasri El-Rufai, and the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, as well as some government officials.

The development, however, took a different turn between Governor El-Rufai and the senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district, Ben Murray-Bruce.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday said the Anambra Central senatorial re-run election scheduled for January 13, 2018 will hold. The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, who gave the assurance in a telephone interview with Dailytrust said the legal debacle hindering the election from holding had been resolved.

Suspected to loyalists of the senator representing Delta central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Mr. Ovie Omo-Agege has allegedly burnt down the Ughelli office of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, (DSIEC).

All is not well with the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom state as the immediate past governor of the state and the current Minority Leader of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has berated Governor Emmanuel Udom over alleged neglect of his Senatorial District in the development agenda of his administration.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Minister of Transport and former Governor of River state, Rotimi Amaechi to urgently resign his appointment from the Federal Executive Council, following his recent appointment as the Director General of President Buhari's 2019 reelection campaign organization.
