Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr has charged stand-in goal keeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa to improve on his goalkeeping skills as the team prepares to meet the toughest rival in the group on October 7. The Coach who admitted that the Eagles went into the Cameroon match with goalkeeper crisis hinted that he had no option than to use his fourth choice since the others were not available for selection. He explained that while Vincent Enyeama and Akpeyi were all injured, Carl Ikeme was sick.
“You know that he’s our 4th goalkeeper, the three other ones you know…Enyeama is injured and cannot play, Carl Ikeme is sick and we are praying for him, Akpeyi is also injured, so it was a problem for us going into this fixture."
“You can say he did very well; he must work harder now. We have two goalkeeper trainers to help him improve more, but overall, he did brilliantly well and also he played well for the CHAN team against Benin, so I am excited that he will deliver for the team when called upon,”
Enzenwa was widely praised for his superb display against Cameroon. His unblemished display was however tainted in the 75th minute of the return leg when he fouled a Cameroonian in the box. The resulting penalty saw the Indomitable Lions securing a draw in the encounter. The super Eagles had defeated Cameroon 4-0 in Uyo.
