The Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) says nine ships laden with petroleum product and other items are waiting to berth across Lagos Ports. The NPA in its 'daily shipping position' released to newsmen on Thursday in Lagos disclosed that out of the nine ships, three contained premium motor spirit. The document further hinted that the remaining six ships were laden with diesel, bulk maize, bulk fertilizer and aviation fuel.
The 'daily shipping position' also indicated that 29 other ships with petroleum products, food items and other commodities were expected in Tin-Can Island Port and Apapa port between December 14 and 30, 2017.
According to the shipping position "the expected ships are carrying buck wheat, containers, general cargoes, bulk steel products, bulk sugar, bulk gypsum, crude palm olein, empty containers, diesel and aviation fuel."
An official of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) who spoke to Vigil360 hinted that the increase in the number of ships laden with petroleum products was to avert fuel scarcity during the yuletide. He explained that the marching order given to the Minister of state for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu last week by the Federal Executive Council has put every stakeholder in the oil sector on their toes.
