President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered defence minister, Brigadier-General Mansur Mohammed Dan Ali (Rtd) to proceed immediately to Zamfara state, where bandits killed between 18 and 36 people on Wednesday, February 14.

The President, who is now in Daura on a condolence visit to family members, asked the minister to undertake an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and report back.

The Nigerian leader strongly condemned the massacre in Birane village, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, according to a statement by Media Adviser, Femi Adesina.

President Muhammadu Buhari met behind closed door with members of the 18 state governors of the APC Governors’ Forum in Daura, Katsina State on Friday.

Three of the governors were represented by their deputies at the meeting, which started at about 2.45 p.m.

Among who governors who attended the meeting were the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum and Zamfara Governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari; Rochas Okorocha (Imo); Abubakar Muhammed (Bauchi); Kashim Shettima (Borno); Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo) and Malam Nasir El-Rufa’I of Kaduna State.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus and some members of the National Working Committee of the party are currently meeting with the former President, Goodluck Jonathan behind closed doors. The Chairman of the party disclosed this on his Twitter handle on Thursday afternoon.

President Muhammadu Buhari will today meet with all governors of the All Progressives Congress in his country home of Daura, Katsina State. According to Dailytrust, the president might tell the governors whether or not he would contest the 2019 presidential elections. Ahead of the meeting, President Buhari yesterday evening arrived his hometown on a private visit after a working visit to Kaduna State where he commissioned a homemade drones made by the Nigeria Air Force.

A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state has issued a query to Nasir El-Rufai, Governor of the state, and suspended two of his aides.

The faction, known as Kaduna Restoration Group, is led by Suleiman Hunkuyi, Senator representing Kaduna north central.

Addressing a news conference in Kaduna on Thursday, Shuaibu Wada, chairman of the faction, said Uba Sani, political adviser to the governor and Abdu Kwari, commissioner for finance, have been suspended for 18 months.

Some Senators were on Thursday seen scampering for safety as the Senate Chamber at the National Assembly Complex was gutted by fire. Specifically, the incident affected Room SB 63 Technical Room at the White House, Senate Wing of the National Assembly complex, and sending smoke through the air conditioner pipes to the chamber.
