Mali Coup: ECOWAS Leaders Meet As Nigeria Mulls Sending Troops

The Heads of Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have today scheduled to hold an extraordinary summit to examine the political situation in Mali. The Directorate of Communication of the ECOWAS disclosed this yesterday in Abuja. The summit which is expected to hold virtually through a teleconference was convened in reaction to the military coup d’etat that took place in Mali that toppled the government of Boubakar Keita on Tuesday. The Rebel soldier took President Ibrahim Keita and the Prime Minister, Boubou Cisse into custody on Tuesday afternoon and drove them to a military base in the outskirt of Bamako that morning.

774,000 Jobs: APC Stalwarts Have Hijacked The Programme – PDP Raises Alarm

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the 774,000 jobs proposed by the Federal Government under the Special Works Program (SWP) have been hijacked by the ALL Progressive Congress (APC) godfathers. Kola Ologbondiyon, the PDP National Publicity Secretary made the claim describing the method of recruitment by the APC administration as “Illegal and anti-people. He alleged that political godfathers in the APC have taken over the allocation of the jobs to their associates and friends instead of the generality of Nigerians.

We Are Not Investigating Osinbajo – House Of Reps

The House of Representative Committee on Public Accounts has yesterday revealed that they are not investigating the Office of the Vice President or the Vice President himself as being insinuated by some rumor peddlers. The Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Wole Oke stated this while talking to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning, Mrs. Olusola Idowu.

I Will Dump PDP If... – Femi Fani-Kayode

The former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has threatened to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the party structure in the Cross River state decides to sideline Governor Ben Ayade in deciding for the party. Fani-Kayode opined that it would be a disaster for the party National Working Committee, NWC to even think of such a thing. According to the former Minister, eventually, the party tore that direction of frustrating Governor Ayade out of its fold, he would be left with no option than to dump the party for good.

Tribunal Nullifies Election of Governor Duoye Diri, Orders Fresh Election Within 90

The Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Petition Tribunal has nullified the election of Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State; based on a petition by the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP), which argued that it was unlawfully excluded from participating in the election.  The tribunal ruling which can still be challenged at the appeal court. This is coming two days after the tribunal dismissed three other petitions against the election of Mr Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The petitions dismissed by the tribunal were filed by the Alliance for Democracy (AD), the United People’s Congress (UPC) and the Liberation Movement (LM).

INEC Announces October 31 For Senatorial, Federal Constituencies, By-elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that it has fixed October, 31 for outstanding the conduct of the 12 pending constituencies by-elections in the country, including those of senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assemblies by-elections. The information was contained in a statement by INEC's National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, in Abuja on Tuesday. The commission said it would have long conducted the by-elections but for the current COVID-19 pandemic.

INEC Inaugurates Live Result Transmission Portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has on Thursday launched INEC RESULT VIEWING (IReV) a public portal where election results are transmitted life, further enhancing the transparency in the country's electoral process. In a statement signed by Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner, Voter Education, and Public Information said the commission will begin using the portal from the Nasarawa Central state constituency by-election on Saturday, 8th August 2020, warning politicians against thuggery and other forms of violence in disrupting the electioneering process as extant law will be observed.
