Ganduje Congratulates Idahosa For Emerging Edo APC Candidate

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has congratulated the winner of the Edo State governorship primary election of the party, Hon Dennis Idahosa. Ganduje, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, urged Idahosa to carry all aspirants along so as to deliver the party at the fourth governorship election in the state.

Bill To Amend Electoral Act Passes Second Reading

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill for Second Reading. The Bill titled "A Bill for an Act to amend the Electoral Act, 2022 and for Related Matters," and sponsored by the member representing Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency, Delta State, Mr. Francis Waive, seeks to revisit the controversial electronic transmission of results that was rejected during the last review.

26 States Prepares For Bye-Elections

In the build-up to the bye-elections scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday, 3 February 2024, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun has ordered for the restriction of all types of vehicular movement on roads, waterways etc from 12 am to 6 pm on the election day. Excluded from this restriction are those on essential duties such of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers, accredited journalists, security personnel on election duty, amongst a few others.

LP Treasurer Demands Chairman Accounts For N3.5bn

A fresh crisis is brewing within the Labour Party (LP), following the demand by the party’s National Treasurer, Mrs Oluchi Oparah that the LP’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, renders an account of N3.5 billion being proceeds of sale of expression of interest/nomination forms and sundry fundraisers for the party for the 2023 general elections. Oparah made this demand at a press conference on Monday in Abuja, where she alleged that Abure interfered with her from performing her constitutionally-assigned role of handling the party’s accounts.

Lagos By-Election: Vehicular Movement Restricted Only In Surulere – Police

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun had on Thursday imposed restrictions on movements – from 12:00 am to 6:00 pm – in areas in 26 states of the federation where by-elections and run-off polls are set to be held on Saturday.

INEC Entreats NAF Support to Airlift Election Materials for By-Election

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, has solicited the support of the Nigerian Air Force in airlifting election materials for the February 3 rerun and by-elections. This request was made bare by Yakubu during a visit to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, on Monday in Abuja. The commission will conduct by-elections and re-run elections in 26 states of the federation on Saturday. In nine states, by-elections will be held to replace members of national and state assemblies who have passed away or resigned, resulting in the need to elect two senators, four members of the House of Representatives, and three members of the state Houses of Assembly. In other states, re-run elections will take place at designated constituencies or polling units as ordered by the election appeal tribunals.
