Kano APC Reverses Ganduje's Suspension

The state working committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano has nullified the suspension of Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the party. They also suspended ward party leaders who earlier suspended Ganduje. The APC executives in Dawakin ward under Tofa LGA of Kano had on Monday suspended Ganduje over the allegations of corruption leveled against him. Abdullahi Abbas, chairman of the APC in Kano, alleged that the ward executives who suspended Ganduje were caught in anti-party activities, adding that they are working with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Abbas said the ward executives have now been suspended for six months.

Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu has been impeached on Monday by the state House of Assembly. Shaibu who has been having a running battle with Governor Godwin Obaseki had refused to honour invitations extended to him by the seven-man panel which investigated allegations leveled against him.

NLC Storms LP Headquarters Demand Abure's Sack

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) today 20th March 2024, stormed the national secretariat of the Labour Party in the nation's capital to protest the covert party's national convention scheduled for this month and also demanding the sack of its National Chairman, Julius Abure. Although, the protesters were refused entry into the building by armed regular policemen on duty. The NLC leadership accused Abure of planning to hold a “secret” convention without the contribution of major stakeholders.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the reopening of Nigeria's land and air borders with the Republic of Niger. The president has also directed the lifting of other sanctions against the country "with immediate effect". The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, while revealing this in a statement on Wednesday said the presidential directive is in compliance with ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at its extraordinary summit on February 24, 2024, in Abuja.

Alleged Budget Padding: SERAP Sues Over Failure to Recall Ningi

The Socioeconomic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has instituted a legal action against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, over the failure to recall Bauchi Central Senator, Abdul Ningi. SERAP also sued Akpabio over his inability to refer the budget padding allegation to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for prosecution. Ningi had raised an alarm that N3.7 trillion was untraceable in the 2024 budget. His allegation led to a three-month suspension by the Senate following his inability to substantiate the budget padding allegation. Following his suspension, activist lawyer, Femi Falana had charged the Senate to reinstate Ningi, a demand that has not been met.

Tinubu Appoints Ilori as NACA DG

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Temitope Ilori, the daughter of ex-Osun state Governor and the first interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebisi Akande, as the new and first female Director-General of the National Agency for Control of AIDS (NACA). Dr. Ilori was also the Commissioner for Health from 2011 to 2014 during the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as governor of Osun State. The appointment is contained in a statement by the Head of Public Relations and Protocol of NACA, Toyin Aderibigbe, on Thursday.

Senator Okpebholo Declared Winner Of Edo APC Gov Primaries

Monday Okpebholo, senator representing Edo Central, has been declared the winner of the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship election in the state. He polled 12,433 to defeat his closest rival, Hon Dennis Odahosa, the member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives who scored 6,541 votes. Bassey Otu, governor of Cross River and the chairman of the APC supplementary primary election, declared Okpebholo winner on Friday, in Benin.
