Monday Okpebholo, senator representing Edo Central, has been declared the winner of the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship election in the state. He polled 12,433 to defeat his closest rival, Hon Dennis Odahosa, the member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives who scored 6,541 votes. Bassey Otu, governor of Cross River and the chairman of the APC supplementary primary election, declared Okpebholo winner on Friday, in Benin.
Declaring the results Otu said, " Sen Okpebholo having satisfied all the requirements of the party and scoring the highest number of votes in this Edo State governorship primary election is hereby declared the winner.”
Otu encouraged other aspirants and leaders of the party to put the primary election behind them and get set for the September 21 election.
He thanked officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies adding that in every contest there must be a winner, and appealed to other aspirants to rally around Okpebholo.
