Senate Passes Bill To Establish Arms Control Commission

The Senate passed a bill on Tuesday seeking to establish the National Commission for the Coordination and Control of the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons. The passage of the bill followed the consideration of a report submitted by the Chairman of the Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Ibrahim Gobir.

DSS Forwarded 44 Reports Before Kuje Prison Attack – Deputy Speaker

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Idris Wase, on Tuesday revealed that the Department of State Services (DSS) issued 44 security reports prior to the attack on the Correctional Service facility, at Kuje Area Council of Abuja, by terrorists. Recall that about 800 inmates, including members of Boko Haram, escaped when insurgents invaded Kuje Maximum Prison on July 5, 2022. Hon Wase disclosed this while contributing to a proposed motion to halt the planned ban on the use of Motorcycles across the nation by the federal government. The motion sponsored by Abubakar Makki Yallemen (APC, Jigawa), also prayed that the Federal Government should restrict the proposed ban to the Local Government Areas where the mining activities or banditry/terrorist activities take place.

Bill To Bar CBN Governor, Deputy From Participating In Politics scaled second Reading

A bill proposing to bar the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, and his Directors from participating in politics while still in office has scaled second reading in the House of Reps. The bill if scaled through will criminalize the Governor of CBN and his Directors from participating in politics while still holding their office. The Bill is set to alter the CBN Act 2007 and is being sponsored by Sada Soli, a lawmaker from Kastina state. The section stipulates when the CBN Governor and his Directors are supposed to exit the office.
