Orji Kalu Faces Fresh Retrial In Alleged N7.1b Fraud

The Federal Government, yesterday asked the Court of Appeal in Abuja to order his fresh trial in an alleged N7.1 billion money laundering case. The FG is praying with the court to void and set aside the September 29, 2021 judgement of the Federal High Court, which prohibited it from retrying the former governor and his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited, over an alleged N7.1 billion fraud. The FG, acting through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), also desires to court to order Kalu and Slok to submit themselves for retrial in line with the order of the Supreme Court in it May 8, 2020 judgment voiding the earlier trial and conviction of Kalu and two others, and ordering a retrial.

Gunmen Attack Oyo Prison, Set Inmates Free

Suspected gunmen have attacked the Abolongo Correctional Facility in Abolongo area in Oyo town, Oyo State on Friday night, freeing several inmates. The Public Relations Officer of the correctional centre, Lanre Anjorin confirmed the attack, saying “The report is true. The correctional centre in Abolongo, Oyo town was attacked. Right now, the controller is there with other senior officers. They are assessing the situation, looking at the damage done to the facility. Detailed report will be made known later.”

Anambra Poll: IPOB Threatens One Week Sit-At-Home Protest From Nov 5

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has threatened to declare a one week sit-at-home protest, shutting down the South East from November 5 to 10, 2021 over the continued detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu. The sit-at-home order comes ahead of the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 6, 2021. The separatist group issued a deadline of November 4th to the Federal Government for the Kanu's or risk a week-long shutdown of activities in the South East region.

Police Confirm Kidnap Of Over 30 Travelers In Niger State

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have reportedly kidnapped about 30 passengers at Garin Gabas in Rafi Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State while travelling in an 18-seater bus and two other vehicles. Niger State Commissioner of Police, Mr Monday Kuryas, confirmed the abduction of 13 passengers in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN). According to Kuryas about 3:30 pm, the Zungeru Divisioonal Police Officer reported that one Mubarak Idris of Kwanawa village, Sokoto State, who was the driver of the 18-seater bus, lodged a complaint at the station. He added that, the driver said his vehicle, loaded with 18 passengers from Yauwuri, Kebbi State, mostly fishermen, was heading for Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on fishing activities. On getting to a sharp bend in Konar Barau along the Tegina-Minna Road, suspected bandits in military uniform kidnapped 13 of his passengers and his motor boy.
