Suspected gunmen have attacked the Abolongo Correctional Facility in Abolongo area in Oyo town, Oyo State on Friday night, freeing several inmates. The Public Relations Officer of the correctional centre, Lanre Anjorin confirmed the attack, saying “The report is true. The correctional centre in Abolongo, Oyo town was attacked. Right now, the controller is there with other senior officers. They are assessing the situation, looking at the damage done to the facility. Detailed report will be made known later.”
According to Daily Post, the gunmen stormed the correctional facility about 10 pm, using hand grenades to gain access to the facility and set prisoners free.
