Reports have it that bandits have released about 90 abducted students and staff of Federal Government College (FGC), Birnin Yauri in Kebbi state after spending one hundred and eighteen (118) days in captivity. Confirming the gaining of freedom of the students and teachers, a father of one of the victims, who sort for anonymity said, they were released yesterday but are still with the authorities. They are expected to undergo some medical check-up before they are released to parents. Requested whether or not there was ransom paid earlier than the bandits launched the scholars, he stated, “I’m not going to talk on that. I hope the authorities are in the position to explain better.”
The Police Public Relations Officer in Kebbi state, DSP Nafi’u Abubakar confirmed the released of the students and their teachers to newsmen but did not make further clarification.
The students and staff of the college were abducted in June after bandits numbering about 100 stormed their school shooting indiscriminately. A police operative was killed during the attack.
