There is hope for peace in the horn of Africa as the Ethiopian Government and Tigray People Liberation Front, TPF, have entered into a cease-fire agreement being negotiated by the African Union in South Africa. As of yesterday during the signing of the agreement, a two-year cease fire has been negotiated by African leaders like former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, Uhuru Kenyata of Kenya, and others in Pretoria, South Africa. Shortly after the meeting, Obasanjo congratulated both parties for ending hostility, and disarmament as well as providing access for humanitarian into the region for the provision of succor to the battered civilians.
According to the statement monitored by vigil360, the two parties in the Ethiopian conflict have formally agreed to the cessation of hostilities as well as the systematic, orderly, smooth, and coordinated disarmament.”
African Union delegation who championed the negotiation were former Nigerian leader, president Olusegun Obasanjo, former Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, and former Vice president of South Africa, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngouka.
Representatives of the international communities such as intergovernmental Authorities on Development, IGAD, the UN representative, and the US were all available to witness the occasion.
During the talk, the Ethiopian prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed said, “as we’re completing the war in the north with victory, we have to bring peace, development and ensure Ethiopia’s prosperity, so we make those forces that (cause) conflict among Ethiopians from afar feel shame.”
