Novak Djokovic beat Gael Monfils 6-3 6-4 to win the Aegon International in Eastbourne in his debut outing for the grass court tournament. The world number four took a late wild card to enter the tournament as he whitewashed all four opponents to clinch the title.

It was the 12-time Grand Slam champion's first grass-court title since winning Wimbledon in 2015 and the 68th title of his career. He produced a vintage performance to oust the Frenchman Gael Monfils without dropping a set before heading for the All England Cup tourney next week.

"This is the best possible preparation for next week so hopefully I can go on from here," said the 30-year-old Serb.

In the women’s side of the draw, Karolina Pliskova beat Caroline Wozniacki 6-4 6-4 to reign supreme as she confirmed herself as one of the major threats at Wimbledon.

This is Czech ace third title of the year.
