The House of Representatives has called on the federal Government to take immediate steps to tackle extreme poverty in the country.

The call was by Rep. Muhammed Wudil (Kano-APC) at plenary following the unanimous adoption of an Urgent Motion of National Importance.

President Muhammadu Buhari is to depart for Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, to participate in the ninth Summit of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation (D-8) slated for Oct. 20.

Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, said in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Defence Headquarters has described the Armed Forces’ medical outreach as part of the Forces’ constitutional responsibility of securing lives and property of Nigerians. The Director of Defence Information, Major General John Enenche, said in a statement issued in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital that there were no sinister motive behind the Armed Forces medical outreach exercise.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday expressed concern on the growing complaints and agitations by workers in states over unpaid salaries and allowances, in spite of interventions by the Federal Government. The President made his feelings known when he received a group of governors led by the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Abdul’Aziz Yari, at the State House, Abuja.

The Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has been conferred with the 2017 Forbes Best of Africa Innovative Banking Award by the Forbes Magazine. The award was presented to Emefiele by the President of Forbes Customs Emerging Markets, Mark Furlong.

A former Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, Prof Tunde Adeniran, has dismissed the EFCC led anti-corruption campaign as a mere witch hunt of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Prof. Adeniran alos said he was confident of delivering a PDP presidency in the 2019 general elections if he emrges National Chairman of the party.
