A Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that the Senate is conferred with the authority to ensure the choice of “only suitable and credible persons for appointment to the office”.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kwara state chapter has expressed apprehension over the possible return of Senate President, Bukola Saraki lamenting that his return could lead to the hijack of the party structure in the state. The State Chairman of the party, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo who stated this on Wednesday

Government officials, family and friends gathered at the Michael Opara Square, in the Independent Layout, Enugu to hold a commendation service in honour of the former Vice President, Alex Ekwueme.

The week-long event which entered the third day had top government officials, family, friends and associates of the late elder statesman paying their tributes, and describing him as an irreplaceable gentleman of truth and honour.

Present at the event were the governors of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Imo State Deputy, Eze Madumere, Governor of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Charles Soludo, Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, amongst other top dignitaries.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday stormed the Ogun state Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oke Ilewo area, along with former governors of Cross River and Osun states, Donald Duke and Oyinlola Omisore respectively to inaugurate the Coalition for Nigeria Movement.

The Senate has summoned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to explain the steps taken to prevent further killings in Benue state.

Lawmakers in the upper chambers of the nation’s National Assembly took the decision after Senate President Bukola Saraki read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari, explaining the steps taken after the January killings in the State.

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to review the entire national security architecture to tackle the nation’s challenges.

In a letter to Senate President Bukola Saraki, dated January 25, President Buhari recalled the Benue Killings for which he had taken series of action and which ultimately will culminate in the restructuring of the nation’s security architecture.
