‘Nigeria Won’t Bow To Evildoers’ — Buhari Reacts To Killings In Benue Church

President Muhammadu Buhari has described as “vile and satanic”, the killing of worshippers and two priests at a Catholic church in Ukpor-Mbalom community in Gwer east local government area of Benue state.

Around 5 am on Tuesday, gunmen invaded St Ignatius’ Catholic Church, killing two priests and some worshippers. They also burnt many houses in the community.

The deceased priests were identified as Joseph Gor and Felix Tyolaha.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Makurdi had blamed the incident on “Jihadists”.

NASS Sets Up Committee To Investigate Senate Invasion

Nearly one week after hoodlums invaded the National Assembly, the Senate is setting up a joint committee with the House of Representatives to examine the factors which led to the invasion and find recommendations to ensure it does not reoccur.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, made this announcement on Tuesday, at the resumption of legislative proceedings for the week.

The announcement comes after unidentified persons on April 18, stormed the Senate Chambers and disrupted the proceedings.

The invaders snatched the mace and took it away.

The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has said for any electoral body to successfully conduct an election, it must plan and put in place necessary measures stressing that the exercise is not a guess work. Prof. Yakubu stated this on Monday in Abuja when he hosted senior officials of the Independent Electoral Commission of Lesotho, IECL, in Nigeria, on a study tour of the commission.

CJN Meets Buhari, Updates Him On The Judiciary

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen, on Tuesday, updated President Muhammadu Buhari on activities of the nation’s judiciary.

Onnoghen, who spoke to State House correspondents on the outcome of the closed-door meeting with the President, said he kept the president abreast of latest developments in the judiciary.

He added that “I am here to felicitate with Mr President.

“As you are aware, he has just returned from the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting as head of Federal Government delegation and there is the need for regular interaction to keep him abreast of latest developments in the judiciary.”

The CJN, who expressed satisfaction over the performance of judges in the fight against corruption, said the setting up of Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (COMPRECO) had assisted in this direction.

Row In House Of Reps Over $496m Super Tucano Fighter Jets

The House of Representatives plenary became a rowdy session Tuesday morning over calls for impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari by a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kingsley Chinda.

The row was over the payment of $496 million to the United States Government by the Buhari administration for the much needed 12 Super Tucano fighter jets.

It followed the reading of President Buhari’s letter to the House of Representatives, by Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

President Muhammad Buhari has granted the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi leave of absence to enable him contest the Ekiti state governorship election. The leave according his media aide is to allow the former governor of Ekiti State seek the nomination of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stand as a candidate in the July 14 governorship poll.
