The Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu has appealed to Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho, the promoter of Eko Petrochem And Refining Company Limited which was recently granted license to construct a modular refinery in Lagos to complete the project before 2019. The Minister made the call on Saturday during the signing of United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA)’s $1 million grant to Eko Petrochem and Refining Company Limited and official presentation of Tomaro Industrial Park as Free Trade Zone.
The Minister who was represented by his Special Adviser, Technical, Engineer Rabiu Suleiman assured that the Federal Government was working assiduously to ensure the completion of all modular refinery projects by granting operators pioneer status, duty waivers and engineering assistance where necessary.
Speaking at the event, Ihenacho disclosed that the grant would be use to finance the completion of the refinery.
According to him “We are delighted by the USTDA’s award and are very grateful to the American government and its trade development agency for the delivery of this very crucial and welcome support. By this grant, the agency has demonstrated its commitment to the infrastructure development and economic growth of Nigeria, especially in the areas of export technology and services that promote the country’s refining capacity”
The Eko Petrochem and Refining Company Limited was structured to refine 20, 000 barrels of crude oil per day. It is located at Tomaro Island in Lagos state.
