The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked media reports that it recently created 30,000 additional polling units in order to compromise the 2019 general elections. Recall that the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Olagbondiyan on Friday has accused INEC planning to create 30,000 illegal polling units in some remote areas in order to rig the 2019 general elections in favour of the All Progressives Congress.

Nigerians resident in the United Kingdom on Friday converged in front of the Nigerian High Commission in London, rallying in Support of President Muhammadu Buhari's reelection bid in 2019. According to NAN, members of the groups expressed support for the Buhari-led administration, saying he had delivered on his previous electoral promises and should be given the opportunity to continue in 2019.

Following the recent statement by President Muhammadu Buhari's, linking marauding herdsmen with Libya, the Defence Headquarters on Saturday said it has handed over 162 suspected herdsmen to the Nigerian Police for investigation in to possible existence of ties with foreign governments.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Nigeria’s Bola Adesola, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria, to serve as Vice-Chair of the Board of the UN Global Compact. Also appointed with Adesola is Paul Polman of the Netherlands, Chief Executive Officer of Unilever, to also serve as Vice-Chair of the Board of the UN body, the UN announced.

Attahiru Bafarawa

Some groups in Kaduna have resolved to organise a two-million-man-match to convince former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa to join the 2019 presidential race.

Abdullahi Mu’azu, the Coordinator of the groups under the platform of Bafarawa Initiative for Peace, Unity and Progress, made this known to newsmen after a meeting in Kaduna on Friday.

He also expressed their readiness to obtain nomination form for Bafarawa when the time comes.
