The management of Independent National Electoral Commission said it has suspended about 205 compromised staff of the Commission over their various roles in the 2015 general elections. The Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu stated this on Tuesday while presenting a keynote address at the national colloquium organised by the Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group, ISDMG, in Abuja.

Defence Minister, Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali, and the Nigerian Army, yesterday, took on former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Theophilus Danjuma (Retd), over a statement credited to him, calling on the people of Taraba State and Nigerians in general to take up arms and defend themselves against killings.

The Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, while appearing before the Abuja Federal High Court, adduced reasons why they are opposed to move by the National Assembly to reorder the sequence of the 2019 general elections.

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Maimala Buni has condemned call for self defence by former Minister of Defence, TY Danjuma, describing it as unfortunate. Danjuma while speaking at the maiden edition of the Taraba State University in Jalingo had called on the people to rise up and defend themselves in the face of attacks from Fulani herdsmen. He accused the military of providing protection for the herders.

The Senate President Bukola Saraki on Monday spoke on why he did not embark on an earlier visit planned for Geneva, Switzerland. According to his media office, the trip which was slated for Sunday had to be cancelled due to a number of pressing domestic engagements. There had been speculations that Saraki may have aborted the trip in an effort to fight for his political survival, following an alleged plot to remove him from office.
