Following President Muhammadu Buahari's declaration of intent to seek reelection in 2019, the Presidency has revealed what will happen to those who had hitherto expressed their interest in vying for the position. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adeshina in a lengthy post on his Facebook page said the two options left for those seeking to contest the 2019 Presidential election are 'run or run away'.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the declaration of intention by President Muhammadu Buhari to seek second term as a mere show of interest. The PDP also referred to the President’s declaration as internal affairs by the party.
