FG Approves Establishment of 3 Polytechnics

The Federal Government (FG) has approved the establishment of three new Federal Polytechnics in some parts of the country. This was made known on Tuesday in a statement issued by Mr. Ben Goong, the Director of Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education. The statement reads in part, “In line with his determination to make tertiary education more accessible, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of 3 new federal polytechnics in the country.

2022 UTME: JAMB Releases Mock Results

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have released the mock results of the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which was conducted on Saturday, April 9, 2022. This announcement was contained in JAMB’s Weekly Bulletin released on Monday by the Office of the Registrar.

FEC Approves Establishment Of 12 Private Universities

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the issuance of provisional licenses for the establishment of 12 new private universities nationwide. The memo for the establishment of the universities was presented to the Council by the Minister of State, Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba on behalf of the National Universities Commission (NUC). This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed at the end of the Council’s meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari Signs Bill On Teachers Retirement Age, Others

President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law the Harmonised Retirement Age for Teachers Act, 2022 which increases the retirement age of teachers in public schools. Section 1 of the Act states that public school teachers shall compulsorily retire on the attainment of 65 years of age or 40 years of pensionable service.

Northern Nigeria Gets Its First University Of Education

The National University Commission (NUC) has approved the upgrade of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto to be henceforth recognized as Sokoto State University of Education. The approval came as the 58th of its kind as a state University and 206th university in Nigeria. The Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Adamu Rasheed while presenting the recognition certificate to the Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal in Abuja, said the Shehu Shagari University is now the first University of Education in Northern Nigeria also the 4th of its kind in the whole country.
