The deployment of security operatives to the office of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) following refusal by the suspended Chairman of the Scheme to vacate office has paid off, as the Acting Chairman of NHIS, Attahiru Ibrahim has resumed duties in his new capacity.
Ibrahim who took over from Usman Yusuf made this known in his first press statement issued in Abuja yesterday. He stated that his team understood that there are more works to be done at the NHIS and assured that they will hit the ground running. He warned that under his watch, erring workers who go beyond their briefs will be adequately sanctioned to serve as deterrent to others.
“We realized there is a lot of work to be done in order to boost staff morale. This is aimed at reassuring them that they’re first of all human beings who deserve some dose of dignity and realigning their focus with a new vision"
“This becomes compelling as not a few staff are still under a state of siege owing to, frankly speaking, a seeming gap and disconnect between the management and the workforce. While there is work to be done to boost staff morale, no effort would be spared to sanction staff that went beyond their briefs”
Until his appointment as the Acting Chairman of NHIS, Ibrahim was the General Manager in charge of Contributions Management Department at NHIS Headquarters in Abuja.
