The Niger State Coordinator of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) Alhaji Abdullahi Isa on Tuesday said the office in Minna was gutted by fire. Issa who stated this while conducting newsmen around the office complex stated that three office rooms were affected by the inferno. He further hinted that the fire affected the internet, Account Department, Head of Gas and Down Stream offices.
According to him, the attention of the Head of Inspection was drawn to the fire by a nearby mechanic who noticed smoke from one of the affected offices. “A mechanic in the neighbourhood rushed to notify the Head of Inspection that he noticed smoke coming from one of the offices. The fire started around 3:30a.m. when most of the staff have gone for monitoring.
Though the cause of the fire is being investigated, a preliminary report shows that it may be as a result of an electrical fault.”
Issa who also said the fire caused one of the batteries powering the inverter to explode commended officials of the state fire service for promptly responding to the incident stressing that their response prevented the fire from escalating.
