Nnamdi Kanu has been the cynosure of all eyes since his recent bail granted him by the Federal High Court, Abuja. The champion of Biafran secessionist campaigns has become a celebrity of some sought as politicians, religious leaders, business moguls and “commoners” in the acclaimed “Biafran” enclave continue to troop to Kanu for some form of respite, recognition, and spiritual blessings.
His release has equally sparked renewed secessionist agitations. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has become more violent in their campaigns; while Kanu has continued to make statements that tend to fuel renewed agitations. Apparently, he has breached many aspects of his bail conditions, forcing the Federal Government to be tinkering with the idea of revoking his bail and sending him back to prison custody.
Sources at the Federal Ministry of Justice suggest that the prosecuting authorities are taking records of the alleged breaches of the bail conditions by Kanu, and would take necessary steps against the IPOB leader at the necessary time, which include revocation of the bail.
Part of the major conditions of the bail which Justice Binta Nyako granted Kanu on 25th April, 2017 include prohibition from granting press interviews. The Judge also barred Kanu from participating in any rally and warned that he should never be found in any crowd of more than 10 persons. Kanu have publicly flouted these conditions.
Although no timeline has been given for government’s action, it is only with time that Kanu may return back to his abode at the Kuje Prison.
