The founder and Chief Executive Officer of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg has criticized the United States President, Donald Trump for pulling the US out of the Paris Climate agreement. Zuckerberg who made his position known via his Facebook page wrote:
“withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement is bad for the environment, bad for the economy, and it puts our children's future at risk. For our part, we've committed that every new data center we build will be powered by 100% renewable energy”
He added that “stopping climate change is something we can only do as a global community, and we have to act together before it's too late”
The President of the United States had reiterated his resolve to pull out of the agreement in line with his campaign promises. He stated that his motive was to renegotiate a “fairer deal” that would not disadvantage US businesses and workers. He said that "if we can get a deal, that's great. If not, that's fine."
The Paris Climate Agreement is an agreement within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change UNFCCC) factored to deal with issues relating to greenhouse emissions, mitigation and adaptation. About two hundred countries are signatory to the Agreement. In the pact, each member country was to determine its own contribution to mitigate global warming.
Meanwhile, France, Germany and other countries have condemned Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Agreement, threatening not to allow for a renegotiation of the deal.
