A Federal High Court sitting in Kano state affirmed Mohammad Sani Abacha as the duly elected Kano State 2023 Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) while Sadik Aminu Wali was sacked as the party’s candidate in the state.
The presiding judge, Justice A.M Liman passed the judgment on Thursday and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove Wali’s name and replace it with Abacha’s.
The court also directed that Wali should stop parading himself as the party’s governorship candidate.
Counsel to Wali stated that the judgment would be challenged at the upper court.
Abacha had filed a suit against Wali, INEC and the PDP, arguing that according to the Electoral Act 2022, he scored the most amount of total votes, therefore the court should declare him the winner of the party's gubernatorial primary election held on May 25.
